Sturgeon County Mayor Don Rigney will serve another term after being acclaimed as mayor on Monday.

Rigney will not be alone as Coun. Karen Shaw, Coun. Don McGeachy and Coun. Tom Flynn will also receive another term without having to run a campaign.

Three of the county’s divisions have drawn a contested race.

In Div. 3, incumbent Coun. Ken McGillis will square off against Catlin Letendre, a 21-year-old from the Calahoo area.

In Div. 4, two newcomers have stepped into the race as long-time councillor Jerry Kaup has decided to retire. Al Homeniuk, a retired RCMP officer from the Alcomdale area will challenge Dave Kluthe, a farmer from the division.

Div. 5 also has an interesting race with incumbent Joe Milligan facing off against a former employee of the county, Wayne Bullock.

Bullock was the county’s director of infrastructure services before retiring from the position early this year.

Election day in the county is Oct. 18, but ballots will only be available in divisions where races are occurring.
