A Calgary man will be in prison for two years after stealing more than $5,000 in merchandise from the St. Albert Superstore.

Jean Paul Boutin appeared in St. Albert court Monday via closed-circuit television from the Edmonton Remand Centre and pleaded guilty to break and enter.

Court heard on July 15, a Superstore employee found that the mobile phone kiosk in the store had been broken into and merchandise valued at $5,400 had been stolen.

Just over a week later, a man – later identified as Boutin – was caught on video surveillance attempting to break and enter into a phone kiosk in Edmonton. Police identified Boutin as the thief from the St. Albert Superstore and arrested him.

The 33-year-old was handed a global sentence of two years for charges out of Edmonton in September.

On Monday, Judge Norman Mackie gave Boutin a sentence of six months in prison, to run concurrently with his current time.
