St. Albert RCMP have made an arrest following an armed robbery in the Riel Business Park last Tuesday night.

Police responded to a call of an armed robbery at the Hughes car and truck wash on June 30 around 8 p.m. after a male described as being between 18 and 25 years old and about five-foot-six to five-foot-eight came into the store brandishing a knife and told the clerk he was robbing her.

The clerk did not resist, allowing the man to take what he wanted. She was unharmed, and the suspect fled on foot.

RCMP police dog services also responded to the scene and began to track the suspect in the direction he was last seen fleeing. While the dogs and their handlers were unable to locate the suspect, they did find several items including articles of clothing consistent with the description of the suspect witnesses gave to police.

A few hours later, two RCMP officers returned to the area where the clothing was found and saw two males searching for things in nearby shrubs. In speaking with the individuals, police were able to link the items to the two males and both were arrested. One male was released from custody without charges, after police determined he was not involved in the robbery, and another male was arrested.

St. Albert resident Clifford Aaron Ferguson, 19, also known as Aaron Clifford Gerbrandt, was charged with robbery and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence. He has not yet spoken to bail and is currently being held in the Edmonton Remand Centre pending the next court date, which is Monday in St. Albert.

Const. M.J. Burroughs of the St. Albert RCMP said police could not release any further information about this incident.

Police ask residents who have information about this or any other crime to contact them at 780-458-7700 or phone Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
