Take some 'me' time

Early in September, I ran into Anna Borowiecki of the St. Albert Gazette. I told her how thrilled I was about having the opportunity to blog with the Gazette. I explained to her that I had a ton of ideas, and even had a special Halloween blog idea planned. She told me not to wait until then to do my next blog. I chuckled, as I had so many themes and ideas I had planned to submit prior to my Halloween blog. And yet, here we are, only four days until Halloween. Yikes!

Fall is a crazy time of year. With back to school, back to the grind, back to the regime, time flies by at an unreasonable pace. The days are getting shorter, and that only adds to the panic that there is not enough time to get everything done! Add to that all the back-to-school fundraisers, new activities and a celebration of Alberta Culture Days with StArts Fest, I find myself not in the middle of October, but at the end, with blog ideas clogging up, my shed not yet complete, my garden still untended and my front deck still unstained.

The threat of winter and snow nipping at my heels every time I look out the window at all my unfinished projects is depressing to say the least.

Is it any wonder why we get so frustrated with Christmas items being displayed at the stores so early in the year? Sure, they are just trying to sell us more and more stuff, but isn’t it also the fact that having the Christmas season just two months away is a reason to fret? We all know that time goes by all too quickly, and the next two months will be filled with school activities, tournaments, concerts, parties and obligations.

It all sounds so depressing, doesn’t it? But as I am writing this, explaining and justifying to myself why I haven’t had time to blog, I realize that I haven’t made the time. I love to write, but the toilet needs to be cleaned. Or does it? I can take some time for myself, to do something I love – it will make cleaning the toilet all the better. It will make everything better.

Remember, in the next couple of busy months, take time to do something for yourself, whatever that is.
