St. Albert has the second-highest rate of vaccination in Alberta and is beating the average for how many of its residents have received at least one dose, according to newly released data from the province.
On Monday, the government launched a new vaccine portal that shows the vaccination rates in communities across Alberta. St. Albert has a high rate compared with the rest of the province with 56 per cent of residents at least partially vaccinated, surpassed only by the region of Edmonton-Twin Brooks, which has 56.2 per cent of its population vaccinated.
That's compared to 42.2 per cent of Albertans province-wide who have received a shot.
In St. Albert, 90.4 per cent of residents over the age of 75 have received their first dose, totalling 5,021 people.
For those between the ages of 60 and 74, 87.2 per cent of residents, or 10,959 people, have had their first dose.
For those between the ages of 40 and 59, 73.1 per cent, or 13,665 people, have received their first dose.
For those between the ages of 20 and 39, 46.8 per cent, or 7,987 people, have received their first dose.
For those between the ages of 12 and 19, 36 per cent, or 1,576 people, have received a first dose.
Overall, 39,284 St. Albertans have received their first shot.
Active cases of COVID-19 have been declining in the city since peaking with 270 activec ases on May 2. As of May 17, there were 171 active cases in the community, up slightly from 170 the day before.
In Sturgeon County, active COVID-19 cases dropped to 85 from 89 overnight. Morinville has 35 active cases, down from 36 the previous day.
Sturgeon County West, a zone that includes Morinville, has 41.4 per cent of its residents – or 12,562 people – at least partially vaccinated. Sturgeon County East has 41.4 per cent of the population – 2,554 people – immunized with one dose.
