Shopping for Christmas now has twice the giving, thanks to KDM Helping Hands. It has an online store that opens its physical doors for four days starting Thursday.

The local charity was started by Rosanna Fischer and the KDM condo management company several years ago as a way of giving back to the community.

“We give back to those that we deem need us,” Fischer said, listing off a handful of its initiatives.

As examples, the charity built a fully operational salon at the Ronald McDonald House and offers Mother’s and Father’s Day Pop Up Shops at the facility as well. It compiles and delivers food hampers for families in need every Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter, too.

And then there’s KDM Christmas for Kids, which brings lunch and gifts for each and every child to a different school every year.

“Once a year, we would pick a school and we would bring the magic of Christmas to the school for the day. We fed the whole school. We brought Santa the big guy himself and every child gets a shoebox filled with the same seven essentials and then topped to the brim (with books and toys) based on age and gender. That just kept on growing. This is our eighth year,” she continued.

“We work on that pretty much from January ... as soon as Christmas is over. In January, we start scouting our schools and all the wheels are put in place, items are purchased throughout the year, but the biggest time of year is right now.”

KDM Helping Hands is one of the big ways that the charity fundraises to support all those programs. You can get all of your Christmas décor along with other great gift ideas, clothing, jewelry, children’s items and more all in one place.

“This is our inaugural Christmas pop-up shop. I've shopped through wholesale sites and I've created basically a Christmas shop. We're hoping to raise enough funds to fill the coffers so that we can continue doing what we love to do, and that's giving back.”

People can look for KDM Helping Hands Thursday through Sunday at 205 Carnegie Dr. in the Campbell Business Centre. For those who can't make it to the location, the online store is open for business at kdmhelpinghands.com as well.
