Theatres not closing yet

Despite some rumours making the rounds on social media, Grandin Theatres in St. Albert is not closing at the end of the month.

Despite some rumours making the rounds on social media, Grandin Theatres in St. Albert is not closing at the end of the month.

At this time, a definitive date for the closure of the local movie theatre has not been set, said general manager Amy Woloszyn. The theatre is due to be demolished as part of the Grandin Park Plaza mall redevelopment sometime this year.

“The owners are still discussing (the closure) with Amacon but it definitely will not be on May 31,” said Woloszyn. “We still have our school bookings booked in for the end of the (school) year. So those will be going ahead and we’ll be business as usual.”

The rumours of the closure started with someone commenting on Facebook that employees at the theatre were told to let customers know about the closure.

Woloszyn said the person had commented on their site as well. She added that once a date for the closure has been set, the owners of the theatre will let the public know.
