Two people have been charged after an armed robbery in Morinville on Saturday that saw a heavy police presence in the community, RCMP said in a statement today.
Just before 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, a man and a woman allegedly entered a business on 100th Street in Morinville, where witnesses reported the two pointed what appeared to be a firearm at an employee, RCMP said in a statement released Sunday evening. The two allegedly stole an undisclosed amount of cash and goods and then fled on foot out of the store, the RCMP statement said.
Multiple RCMP detachments responded, including Morinville, Redwater, and St. Albert, and were supported by the Alberta Sheriffs, who contained the area, according to RCMP.
RCMP determined the suspects entered a hotel in Morinville and, with support from RCMP police dog services and the RCMP emergency response team, officers entered the hotel room and took three people — one man and two women — into custody.
In the hotel room, the RCMP found a weapon allegedly used in the robbery, clothing worn by the suspects, and stolen property, RCMP said in the statement.
Kendall Dustin Paul, 28, of Alexander First Nation, has been charged with robbery with a firearm; wearing a disguise with the intent of committing an offence; pointing a firearm; possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose; and unauthorized possession of a weapon.
Ramona Stephanie LaFleche, 50, of Morinville, has been charged with robbery with a firearm and possession of stolen property.
After judicial interim release hearings, Paul and LaFleche were released to appear in Morinville Provincial Court on Feb. 10 at 9:30 a.m., according to RCMP.
Morinville RCMP continue to investigate this incident.
