Morinville RCMP have charged the driver involved in a hit-and-run Thursday morning.

Between 8:10 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., a grey/silver minivan was involved in a collision with an eight-year-old boy near the Morinville Public Elementary School located at 101A Street and 101 Avenue.

Cpl. Sheldon Robb of the Morinville RCMP said the minivan was rounding the corner when it struck a boy who was walking in a marked crosswalk while on his way to school. The minivan drove away.

The boy was not injured and was able to walk away from the scene. He sought medical attention for precautionary reasons only, said Robb.

A 35-year-old Morinville woman has been charged with fail to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and fail to remain at the scene of an accident. She is scheduled to appear in Morinville Provincial Court on Mar. 11.

The RCMP are reminding drivers to be cognizant of pedestrians in school zones and unmarked crosswalks.
