UPDATE: RCMP say truck that drove into hospital is non-criminal

The RCMP will not be investigating the incident

The St. Albert RCMP has confirmed the incident that saw a black truck drive into the doors of the Sturgeon Hospital is non-criminal in nature.

The RCMP will not be investigating the incident.

On Sunday night a black truck drove into the front doors of the Sturgeon Community Hospital around 8 p.m.

A witness says she heard a loud bang and saw the truck had driven into the front doors of the hospital. The male driver of the truck immediately walked into the emergency room in need of medical attention. The truck took out a pillar in front of the entrance before crashing through the doors.

Alberta Health Services spokesperson Kristi Bland said nobody was hurt as a result of this incident.

Normal hospital operations have not been impacted, said said, and the hospital, including the emergency department, remains open to the community.

The building’s main entrance will remain open while repairs are made, Bland said, and staff and the public can also continue to use the pedway entrance to access the facility.

Due to privacy concerns, AHS could not comment on the condition of the driver
