Travis Vader won’t be back in St. Albert court until 2016.
Court heard on Monday that Vader is pleading not guilty to an assault charge. He was arrested at a St. Albert residence on Feb. 12 after his mother’s boyfriend was allegedly assaulted.
His defence counsel requested a trial date be set for spring 2016 but a June date was the earliest possible. The trial will be held on June 6, 2016 and is expected to last all day.
Vader is known for his charges in connection with the murder of two St. Albert seniors, Lyle, 78, and Marie McCann, 77. The couple went missing in July 2010 on a trip to British Columbia. They were declared legally dead in July 2011, and their bodies have never been found.
Vader was formally charged in their disappearances nearly two years after he was named a suspect. The charges were stayed in March 2014, a few weeks before he was to face a jury trial. He was rearrested in December and ordered to remain under house arrest.
He was arrested again on Feb. 12, after police were called to the St. Albert home where he was serving house arrest. St. Albert RCMP said Vader was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with assault and failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, a condition of his release.
Vader is also expected to appear in Edson court on May 5 to face charges relating to driving infractions and six breaches of court conditions in that community on Feb. 28.
The murder trial set is set to run from March 7 to April 8, 2016.
