Local RCMP officers are looking for help finding the vandals who caused around $20,000 damage to Muriel Martin School.

The school was struck on April 19 between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Several windows were broken and there was other damage to the roof.

The only information police have about the incident is that a black hatchback-style vehicle was seen on security footage, but they were not able to see the driver or anyone else.

The same school was targeted earlier this year sometime between March 18 and March 21. The side panels were taken off the school’s front sign and a smokestack on the roof was broken.

Cpl. Laurel Kading said having the same school attacked multiple times like this suggests the attacks are somehow related.

“What it tells me is that this is probably something where we have someone coming back over and over.”

She said the other possibility is the word is somehow being passed around about the location.

Kading said there were also concerns last fall and they are looking for anyone who might have some information to help address the issue.

She said the vandalism is cause for concern because it draws resources away from the classroom.

She added it also might give the impression that the community is somehow unsafe, which could not be further from the truth.

“Deer Ridge is still a great community.”

Anyone with any information on the incidents is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700.
