Want to volunteer and give back to the community, but don’t know how to get involved? We can help you! The St. Albert Community Information & Volunteer Centre has many volunteer opportunities to choose from and can help find the right fit for you, even if you are not sure of what that might be. For information on any of the following volunteer opportunities, or to call and discuss other opportunities, call 780-459-6666 or visit the website www.govolunteer.ca.

Do you have some time to share each week with someone in need of some companionship? Share your gift of listening and good conversation as you visit a senior gentleman who likes to play crib and visit, a senior lady who loves singing, knitting, and gardening or a senior gentleman who has a love of big band music and movies. Many other opportunities exist as well with others in need of a friendly visitor.

Do you enjoy public speaking, relate well to children, and are you confident speaking to groups of students? Help make a difference by informing students of how to make healthy choices to prevent heart disease, stroke and other chronic diseases, by delivering a defined, age appropriate and engaging presentation to children and youth. You’ll do approximately two presentations per month during the months from November to June.

In this upcoming season of giving, volunteer to support this organization that helps so many in need all year. From Nov. 18 to Dec. 24, help to accept donations at various St. Albert locations. Shifts are two hours each, minimum age to volunteer is 14 years of age.

Donate a few hours or a few days, whatever time you have, to help renovate and make a new home for the youth in our community. General help is needed packing/unpacking, cleaning, moving things, or painting; some skilled help is needed with carpentry and plumbing work. Assistance needed from Nov. 11 to Nov. 21. Time is flexible between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Do you speak Spanish and are you friendly, patient and have a helpful nature? Be a friendly visitor and help this individual, who has been self-studying, with his conversational Spanish and Spanish grammar. Weekly visits are flexible as to when it takes place.

Do you have sewing skills, your own sewing machine and a desire to make a difference by helping to improve the quality of life for someone in our community? Assist to adapt clothing for residents, in a local care facility, who have a low range of motion and need adjustments to their clothing such as adding buttons, snaps and velcro. Time commitment varies to your schedule and work can be done in the comfort of your own home.

Be a part of this Edmonton International Winter Festival taking place from Dec. 31 to Feb. 20 at Sir Winston Churchill Square in Edmonton. This new festival will run every weekend and take place in six heated temporary structures in the square. Help with crowd control, assist with children’s arts and crafts or with the play area, or oversee the volunteer room and be the friendly face to the volunteers helping at the event.
