Do you have some time to share each week with someone in need of some companionship? Share your gift of listening and good conversation as you visit with this individual as well as assist with light grocery shopping. You must have a vehicle to do this. Many other opportunities exist as well, as others are also in need of a friendly visitor.
Tag, you’re it! It’s your turn to reach out and connect with a St. Albert youth to be a friend and positive role model. As a mentor, you will spend quality time with your young sidekick in activities of mutual interest, on a weekly basis. Volunteer to fill this very worthwhile and rewarding role as an individual, as a couple or as a family.
Are you patient, have good listening skills and enjoy working with patients? Help to distribute and collect patient meal service satisfaction questionnaires, and sometimes assist patients to complete the questionnaires. Flexible daytime hours are available, with a minimum of two shifts per month.
If you enjoy reading books, are patient and organized, and would enjoy bringing that pleasure to others in our community, this opportunity will interest you. In this role, you will provide outreach library services to seniors and/or persons with disabilities who are unable to visit the library themselves. You will determine the individual’s preferences for library materials, then select, deliver and return library materials for them.
Habitat for Humanity has started the build at Aurora Place and needs you. This is a great opportunity to get involved in our community, learn new skills, work in a team and contribute to the future home of a local family. Put your needles and hooks to work for a great cause. More than 650 athletes will go for gold at the 2012 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in February 2012. Show them your support by hand-knitting or crocheting a cozy scarf, one that will become a treasured keepsake well after the Games come to a close. Scarves need to be made to certain measurements and colours. Participate in this fun and worthwhile project, as the scarves are made with love and worn with pride.
Do you have sewing skills, your own sewing machine and a desire to make a difference by helping to improve the quality of life for someone in our community? Help adapt clothing for residents in a local care facility who have a low range of motion and need adjustments to their clothing, such as adding buttons, snaps and velcro. The time commitment varies to your schedule and work can be done in the comfort of your own home.
