St. Albert's election results by poll subdivision are in, and it appears there are two things local voters could agree on at the ballot box: Cathy Heron and Cam MacKay were their top picks.
St. Albert's election results by poll subdivision are in, and it appears there are two things local voters could agree on at the ballot box: Cathy Heron and Cam MacKay were their top picks.
The two incumbent councillors topped every poll subdivision in St. Albert and the advance votes. In the institutional vote, which served some care homes and the Sturgeon Community Hospital, Heron was first and Gilles Prefontaine and Tim Osborne tied for second, with MacKay trailing the pair by one vote for third.
In the race for mayor, incumbent and mayor-elect Nolan Crouse won in all but two subdivisions.
The nine polling subdivisions are:

• Grandin-Heritage Lakes
• Mission-downtown
• Lacombe Park-Riverside
• North Ridge-Deer Ridge
• Braeside-Inglewood
• Erin Ridge-Erin Ridge North
• Woodlands-Oakmont
• Kingswood-Pineview-Akinsdale
Challenger Shelley Biermanski beat Crouse in the Erin Ridge-Erin Ridge North poll, as well as Kingswood-Pineview-Akinsdale. In Erin Ridge, she had 875 votes to Crouse's 735, but in Kingswood-Pineview-Akinsdale the margin was closer, with Biermanski pulling 1,256 votes to Crouse's 1,248.
On the councillor front, in each subdivision, either Heron or MacKay were at the top.
Heron was first in all but two of the subdivisions: Erin Ridge-Erin Ridge North, and Kingswood-Pineview-Akinsdale. In those two, MacKay was first and Heron second.
In the advance vote, Heron also placed first and MacKay second.
Most polls reflected a voting pattern that was very close to the ultimate result, with the councillors-elect being Heron, MacKay, Osborne, Prefontaine, Brodhead and Hughes.
Incumbent Malcolm Parker, who was not elected, cracked the top six in Mission-downtown, Erin Ridge-Erin Ridge North and in the advance votes.
Bob Russell cracked the top six in Braeside-Inglewood, Erin Ridge-Erin Ridge North and the institutional vote.
John Goldsmith was the only other unsuccessful councillor candidate to crack the top six in any of the polls, placing third in Braeside-Inglewood. Unlike Parker and Russell, Goldsmith has not served on council before.
Six of the nine polling subdivisions saw all six successful council candidates get the most votes there. Mission-downtown, Braeside-Inglewood and Erin Ridge-Erin Ridge North bucked the trend.
In the Sturgeon-Forest Lawn subdivision, all six councillor-elects were not only the top vote getters, they placed in the same order as with the overall results.
From first to sixth, that's Heron, MacKay, Hughes, Osborne, Brodhead and Prefontaine. Crouse even captured about 55 per cent of the mayoral vote there, mirroring his overall result.
Osborne fell below the elected line in Mission-downtown and the advance votes. He tied Ted Durham for sixth with 545 votes in Erin Ridge-Erin Ridge North.
Hughes was below the line in the institutional vote – the only poll subdivision in which she failed to place in the top six. Prefontaine and Brodhead were both below the line in Braeside-Inglewood and Erin Ridge-Erin Ridge North.
