Alberta Occupational Health and Safety officers are investigating the death of a man who fell from a ladder while on the job.

An employee of Donalco Inc. was working on a project at Bellerose Drive and Boudreau Road on Nov. 21, when he fell about 16 feet from the top of a ladder. The man was in his 40s. He was transported to hospital where he later died.

Donalco Inc. specializes in industrial/commercial fireproofing as well as hazardous waste removal.

This is one of four workplace fatalities reported in the province over the past week. The rest of the incidents occurred in southern Alberta.

There were 188 occupational fatalities in Alberta in 2013, the highest number reported since 2008, provincial stats show. Twenty-one workplace incident fatalities have been investigated up until Oct. 15 of this year.

OHS investigations can take up to two years for conviction.

Donalco Inc. said the senior employee was working on the Shops of Boudreau project. The company hopes to have an internal investigation completed by next week.

Greg Somers, president of Donalco Ltd., did not wish to provide further comment until the investigations are complete.

The name of the deceased has not been released by OHS.
