The St. Albert Slash swept the hometown Grande Prairie Storm last weekend by scores of 4-0 and 8-2 in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League. Chloe Sanderson was credited with eight saves in the team’s second shutout in as many games.

Chloe Sanderson was credited with eight saves in the team’s second shutout in as many games. Captain Melissa Kueber potted a pair and Karly Heffernan assisted on both of her goals. Angie Mason and Sabrina Flemming also scored.

In the next game Kueber’s hat-trick led all scorers. Jessica Kampjes struck twice and Mason, Charity Price and Deanna Morin notched singles. Lindsay Cox picked up three assists. Emily Mitchell stopped 11 of 13 shots as the winless Storm suffered their eighth loss in a row.

Kueber is starting to run away with the league’s goal scoring title with 12 in six games. She is tied for fifth place in points with 13. Rounding out the top 20 scorers are Kampjes (6-4-10 in seven games), Heffernan (1-9-10 in eight games), Flemming (4-5-9 in eight games) and Mason (4-5-9 in eight games).

The Slash (6-1-1) host the Calgary Bruins (3-3-2) at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Performance Arena. Sunday they visit the Red Deer Chiefs (5-1-1) at 10:30 a.m.

The Slash are the host team for the 2011 Esso Cup national female midget championship, April 17 to 23 at Servus Credit Union Place.

Patrick Gora turned aside 22 shots as the St. Albert Sabres knocked off the previously undefeated Sherwood Park Flyers 4-0 Sunday in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.

Andrew Kary, Tyler Mrkonjic and Paul Lovsin scored in the second period and Brett Smythe tallied in the third. Zack Gronek drew two assists. Flyers goalie Joshua Mudryk faced 23 shots.

The Sabres (2-2-2) and Flyers (3-1) share first place in the nitro north division.

Gora (1-2-1, 2.25 GAA) was also in net in Friday’s 2-2 draw in Camrose against the Kodiaks (0-2-3). Shots were 29-20 for St. Albert. The Kodiaks tied it up with 3:25 to play. The Sabres led 2-1 after the first on goals by Mrkonjic and Brenden Passek.

The next game for the Sabres is Friday against the KC Squires (1-2-1). Faceoff is 6:45 p.m. at Castledowns Arena. Sunday they travel to Lloydminster to play the Heat (3-1-1) at 3:30 p.m.

The third straight win by the St. Albert Flyers in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League was Saturday’s 7-2 rout in Camrose

Jake Mykitiuk sniped three goals and added one assist against the winless Kodiaks. Sebastien Auray scored once and had three helpers. Jack Zubick recorded two goals and Luc Lalor posted one goal and two assists. Shots were 46-22 for St. Albert. In net was Landon Bow.

The undefeated Flyers started off the season with victories of 8-3 over the Maple Leafs (1-2) and 9-3 over the KC Centennials (1-2) at Akinsdale Arena.

Auray’s hat-trick and Taylor Fontaine’s two goals helped rake the Maple Leafs. Mykitiuk, Blake Bosch and Gabriel Chabot had singles. The winning goalie was Bow.

Three goals by Chabot led all scorers against KC. Fontaine, Auray, Mykitiuk, Lalor, Foster Rae and Jeff Harrison also scored. Mykitiuk added three assists. In net was Tanner McCorriston.

Tonight at 7:45 p.m. the Flyers entertain the Southside Athletic Club (1-1-1) at Akinsdale.

The bantam AAA St. Albert Raiders skated to a pair of ties last weekend in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League.

The Raiders (1-1-2) and Edmonton Lightning (1-0-1) played to a 2-2 draw Saturday at Castledowns Arena. Hannah Fouillard scored the tying goal with 45 seconds remaining. Eva Lovsin and Megan Lalor drew assists. Jenna Jewell made it 1-1 in the second. Shots were 37-22 for the Lightning. In net for St. Albert was Sarah Murray.

Murray faced 15 shots in Sunday’s 1-1 stalemate in Sherwood Park against the Royals (0-2-2). Kennedy Newton tallied the equalizer in the middle frame on an assist by Kaylyn Powlik. Royals goalie Alexandra Galenza turned aside 64 shots. The teams play again Friday at 7 p.m. at Millenium Place.

Sunday the Raiders host the Grande Prairie Storm (2-0) at 11 a.m. at Performance Arena.
