Friday night in Stony Plain the Merchants visited the last-place Flyers (1-18-0-1), but the score was unavailable at press time.

Leading the offensive charge for the Merchants are Jake Behiels (21-7-28), Nicolas Addessi (9-18-27) and Chris Clark (8-17-25).

The St. Albert Slash close out their November schedule Sunday against the Grande Prairie Storm in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League. Game time is 11 a.m. at Performance Arena.

The Slash are 5-0-1 on home ice.

In the north division, 21 points separate the second-place Slash (12-2-3) and the fifth-place Storm (2-14-2).

Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. the Slash host the league-leading Edmonton Thunder (15-0-3), the 2010 Esso Cup national bronze medalists. In late October the teams battled to a 2-2 draw in Edmonton.

The Slash are the host team for the 2011 Esso Cup, April 17 to 23 at Servus Credit Union Place.

The deadline is Jan. 10 to submit applications for the third annual John Reid Memorial Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship is open to any player who played bantam AAA hockey for St. Albert and after the 2004/05 season; played hockey in St. Albert for a minimum of three years; is an Alberta resident and Canadian citizen; and is enrolled in a recognized post-secondary education institution.

Applicants must also write a 250-word paper on what playing bantam AAA hockey in St. Albert meant to them, while listing future plans and financial obligations for those plans.

The selection committee is made up of at least two people not related to any applicants from the John Reid Memorial Tournament Society Board, plus one member of the Reid family.

The winner will be announced during the Jan. 20 opening ceremonies of the John Reid Memorial Tournament, starting at 7 p.m. at Performance Arena.

Previous recipients were Justin Kueber and Joshua Maeda.
