The St. Albert Steel’s annual teddy bear toss is Sunday against the Calgary Canucks. Game time is 2:30 p.m. at Performance Arena.

Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal and throw it to the ice after the Steel’s first goal. All the teddy bears will be donated to the Kinettes’ Christmas hamper drive.

Prior to Friday’s visit by the Drumheller Dragons (10-21-0-4), the Steel (14-16-1-2) ranked sixth in the eight-team north standings. The Steel was also 5-4-0-1 in their last 10 games before hosting the last-place south division team. The score was unavailable at press time.

The Canucks (19-10-2-1), second overall in the south, are in Grande Prairie tonight to play the Alberta Junior Hockey League champion Storm (24-9-0-2).

Dan Carr of the St. Albert Steel collected one goal and one assist for Team West at the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s (CJHL) Top Prospects Game in Winkler, Man.

In the two-game total goal series against Team East, Carr recorded his points in Tuesday’s 8-1 win. In Wednesday’s rematch Team East won 2-0.

In the AJHL scoring race, Carr was tied for fifth place as the Steel’s second-highest point producer with 52, on 23 goals and 29 assists in 27 games. The AJHL’s most explosive left winger registered points in every game he has played in except for two: the season-opening 4-0 loss to the Spruce Grove Saints and Sunday’s 8-1 loss to the Storm. He also shared the league lead in power play goals with Steel centre Reed Linaker at 10 apiece.

In 148 games with the Steel, Carr had 66 goals (28 PP), 68 assists, 134 points and 132 minutes in penalties. Next season he will play for the Union College Dutchmen, an NCAA division one team in the ECAC division.
