The 26th annual St. Albert Girls’ Victoria Day Classic is under way for 50 tier I and II soccer teams in the U12 (eight versus eight), U14, U16 and U18 age divisions.

The tournament draw includes Hollandia Impact of Saskatoon and Prince Albert Celtic in U18 tier I and Aurora Rangers of Saskatoon in U12 tier I.

Field locations are the St. Albert Soccer Association’s pitches at Riel Park, as well as Forest Park, Poplar, Eldorado, Grosvenor and the artificial turf at Riel Recreation Park.

The medal playoffs go Sunday and Monday.

The annual St. Albert Early Bird baseball tournament is up to bat at Legion Memorial Park and Meadowview Diamonds.

Forty-four teams are entered in mosquito AA (10), peewee AA (six), peewee AAA (six), bantam AA (six), bantam AAA (eight) and midget AA (eight).

Monday’s finals are 1 p.m. for mosquito AA and bantam AA at Meadowview and peewee AA and peewee AAA at Legion; and 3 p.m. for midget AA and bantam AAA at Legion.

The 21st annual Senior Bowl kicks off noon Monday at Foote Field for three graduating St. Albert High Skyhawks.

Defensive lineman Mark Sutherland, linebacker Keaton Hoddinott and defensive back Jean-Luc Bugeaud made the 41-man roster for the north all-star football team at last month’s tryout camp in Edmonton. More than 170 Grade 12 players from Red Deer north participated in the selection process.

Sutherland was recognized as the Skyhawks’ most valuable player in 2009.

Bugeaud and Hoddinott were the most outstanding offensive and defensive player award winners, respectively, for the metro Edmonton league’s Carr conference team.

The St. Albert Merchants are accepting registrations for their spring identification camp at Servus Credit Union Place. It’s open to junior B eligible players and there is no fee.

Ice slots are June 11, 6 to 7 p.m. at Troy Murray and June 12, 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. at Mark Messier.

Register online through www.stalbertmerchants.com, or in person at the St. Albert Raiders Hockey Club office at Akinsdale Arena during regular office hours, starting Tuesday. Registrations close May 28 at 4 p.m. Space is limited.
