St. Albert (5-1-0) takes on the Clansmen (5-2-0) at 3 p.m. this afternoon at Edmonton’s Ellerslie Rugby Park. St. Albert is currently in third with 24 points while the Clansmen are in second with 25 points, having played one more game than St. Albert. The Calgary Hornets (5-1-0) are first with 25 points.

St. Albert is coming off a 40-20 win over the Lep/Tigers (0-5-0) last weekend. So far this year, the Clansmen are the only team to have beaten St. Albert.

Preceding the St. Albert firsts is the second division team. St. Albert (5-4-0) will face the Norwesters (1-5-1) at 3 p.m. at Ellerslie. St. Albert sits second in the seven-team league, tied with the Leduc Crude with 26 points but St. Albert has played three more games than the Norwesters, who are in last place and trail the Grande Prairie Centaurs by five points. St. Albert was last in action July 10 when they topped the Centaurs 31-20.

Also on Saturday, the St. Albert second division women’s squad is in Grande Prairie to take on the Sirens at 2 p.m. St. Albert will have their best chance so far this year of getting its first win. St. Albert is 0-7 on the season while the Sirens are 0-6, in addition to one forfeit. St. Albert has just two games remaining in the season after Saturday, both at home.

The Alberta Summer Games get under way Sunday in the Peace country.

The first few days (July 19 to 22), include athletics, baseball, canoe and kayak, inline hockey, rugby, mountain biking, swimming and beach volleyball. In the final four days of competition, (July 22 to 25), athletes will compete in basketball, water polo, football, lacrosse, soccer, softball and BMX biking.

The games will take place in communities including Peace River, Grimshaw and Manning.

The peewee AAA St. Albert Cardinals play two weekend doubleheaders. Today, at Legion Memorial Park, the Cardinals take on the Sherwood Park A’s (1-8), at noon and 3 p.m. On Sunday in Spruce Grove, St. Albert takes on the Red Deer Braves (4-10) and the Spruce Grove White Sox (3-5). St. Albert is third in the seven-team league with an even 5-5 record. Their most recent game was on Wednesday when they topped Red Deer 12-5.

The bantam AAA St. Albert Cardinals (11-4) also have a doubleheader Sunday when they take on Foothills Black (12-4-1) at Legion park where the Cardinals will be looking for some revenge. The last time the two teams met was in the second half of a doubleheader for St. Albert. In the first game of the day, they fell to Foothills Red 12-7 and then lost to the Foothills Black squad 15-5 in five innings. The scores from St. Albert’s games on Wednesday and Friday were not available at press time.
