The Rangers are eighth in the 12-team league, but could finish as high as fifth with a win Thursday and some help from other teams.

The St. Albert Impact 1 men (4-2-2) take on the Nations United (3-2-5) side tonight at 7 p.m. at Riel Park in Division 1B action.

St. Albert is in fourth place out of eight teams in the division, but has played the fewest games so far. Just ahead of them by one point in third place is SS Napoli, but St. Albert has two games in hand. In their most recent game, the Impact beat the Scona Blues (3-2-4) 5-1.

In Division 1A, the St. Albert Impact 2 men (4-4-1) take on Karpaty (4-3-2) at Riel Park tonight at 6:30 p.m. St. Albert is second in the division and trail first-place AS Roma by four points. In their last game, the Impact beat Punjab United (3-2-4) 5-0.

Team Alberta wrapped up their time at the U-18 Football Canada Cup with another loss. After opening the tournament with a close 27-24 loss to Nova Scotia, they got blown out by Western Ontario and finished things up with a 23-22 loss to Eastern Ontario at the tournament in Wolfville, N.S.

Eastern Ontario hit the game-winning field goal from 32 yards out with just six seconds remaining in the game.

The loss meant Alberta would finish in last place in the tournament, their worst showing since the tournament began.

The St. Albert bantam AAA Cardinals split a doubleheader Sunday against Okotoks Black, moving their record to 12-5.

In the first game, Cardinals pitcher Jay Florkevich pitched a complete game, four-hitter to improve his record to 4-1 and the Cardinals went on to win the game 8-2. Carson Bokenfohr went 2-for-2 in the game with two walks.

In the second game of the day, the Cardinals fell behind 10-3 early, roared back to pull ahead 12-10, and then gave up six runs in the seventh inning to fall 16-12.

In this week’s Alberta Summer Games in the Peace country, the Cardinals have seven players suiting up in the event. Layne Viveiros, Riley Moskaluk, Florkevich, Bokenfohr, Marcus Blair and Ryan Anderson are all playing for Zone 5, while Tanner Karpinski is playing for Zone 6.

For the peewee AAA St. Albert Cardinals, after losing to Lloydminster on July 11, the team has since rattled off five straight wins, had 80 hits and 78 runs. They visit the Red Deer Braves tonight, before returning home for two games on Saturday against Edmonton and Sherwood Park.
