This week St. Albert’s first and second 15 in women’s rugby will scrum down against the Strathcona Druids.

The second division match goes tonight at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club. The first division tilt is Thursday in Sherwood Park. Kickoff times are 7 p.m.

In the second division table the Druids (2-5) are sixth overall and St. Albert (1-7) is seventh out of eight teams. The seconds are averaging 49.8 points-against per game. They are coming off a 15-5 victory in Grande Prairie against the winless Sirens.

The firsts have two wins in nine Alberta premier matches but both were through defaults by the Southern Alberta Selects, as they called it quits after going 0-3 to start the season. Previous results against the Druids (6-2), last year’s provincial finalists, were losses of 67-13 in the May 8 season-opener in St. Albert and 65-0 June 5 at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

Last weekend in Calgary, the Irish (7-0-1) humbled the firsts 109-0. St. Albert dressed only 16 players and nine starters were missing. In May the reigning provincial champions blasted the firsts 116-0 in St. Albert and last month thumped them 80-5 in Calgary.

The division one St. Albert Impact teams in the Edmonton District Soccer Association are scheduled to kick the ball around tonight at Riel Park. Both squads rank near the top of the standings in their respective divisions.

At 7 p.m. Impact 1 (6-2-2, 20 points) plays Southwest United (4-4-3, 15 points). Daniel Pilon is the top scoring Impact player in division 1B with nine goals. Shaun Kelly has eight and Marcello Cimino added seven.

In division 1A, Impact 2 (4-1-5, 17 points) and Croatia (3-6-2, 11 points) hook up at 8:15 p.m. Cohen Cassidy is Impact’s leading scorer with seven goals.

Saturday is the deadline for online registrations for the St. Albert Triathlon on Aug. 8 at Fountain Park Recreation Centre.

As of Monday night, 202 entries had been processed through www.startt.com Among the registered St. Albert competitors is Ryan Kohlenberg, last year’s runner-up at 59 minutes and 35 seconds and the 2008 winner at 1:01:56.

The fastest male and female last year hailed from Edmonton: Kris Loshack at 58:21 and Kelly Geishmeimer at 1:05:39. The competition featured 288 participants.

This year’s events include the sprint and sprint team relay (750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike and five-km run) and try-a-tri (250m swim, 10-km bike, 2.5-km run).

The Triathlon Alberta sanctioned race is hosted by the St. Albert Roadrunners and Triathlon Club.
