Tier III/IV peewees: Riders (1-3) vs. Spruce Grove Cougars (2-2), 3 p.m. today.

Tier III/IV atoms: Jaguars (0-4) vs. Spruce Grove Cougars (1-3), 11 a.m. Sunday.

Tier III/IV bantams: 49ers (0-4) vs. Edmonton Mustangs (1-3), 12:30 p.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, first place is on the line in the Jackie Parker tier III/IV peewee division Sunday, when the Colts (4-0) visit the Camrose Buffaloes (4-0) at 12:30 p.m.

Playoff action is under way today at the annual SAPEC junior high volleyball tournament with 44 best-of-three matches scheduled.

Bellerose Composite High School is hosting the 16-team girls’ draw. The venues for the 16-team boys’ draw are Vincent J. Maloney School and St. Albert Catholic High School.

In the tier I and II playoff brackets, the third-place games are 3 p.m. and the finals are 4 p.m. at Bellerose and St. Albert High.

Last year’s tier 1 champions were the William D. Cuts Crusaders for the girls and Woodhaven of Spruce Grove for the boys.

Tuesday’s doubleheader at Riel Park field in metro Edmonton high school junior football kicks off at 5 p.m. between the St. Albert Hawks (1-0 in pool B and 2-1 overall) and O’Leary Spartans (1-1 in pool B and 1-2 overall).

At 7:30 p.m. the Bellerose Bulldogs (1-0 in pool B and 2-0 overall) tackle the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (2-0 in pool A and 3-0 overall) in exhibition play.

The Hawks, last year’s premier finalists, are coming off a 28-7 exhibition loss to the Bev Facey Falcons (0-1 in pool A and 2-1 overall) this week in St. Albert. Running back Taylor Grover scored the Hawks’ lone touchdown on a pitch play. It was 7-7 at halftime. The defence had trouble stopping Facey’s inside run.

The Bulldogs had the bye week.

The junior version of the Battle of St. Albert between the Hawks and Bulldogs is Oct. 19 to end the regular season.

The top two teams in pools A and B qualify for the premier semifinals and the rest of the teams compete for city playoff honours.
