Mission ringette

The St. Albert Mission are ringing it at the 34th annual Wood Invitational Tournament this weekend at Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre.

The U14AA division consists of eight teams and in pool play the Mission plays Friday at 10:45 a.m. against Edmonton Elite and 6:30 p.m. against Calgary Red and 10 a.m. Saturday against Southwest Winnipeg Wild. Sunday’s final is 2:30 p.m.

The U14AA Mission are 10-5-2-2 after Saturday’s 6-2 win over Spruce Grove to close out session one in the Black Gold League.

The last U14AA tournament was the Bernadette Price Memorial in Saskatoon and the Mission finished 3-2 after losing the third-place game in overtime to the Saskatoon Saints.

Pool play in the 10-team U16AA division for the Mission consists of games Friday against Spruce Grove at 8:15 a.m. and Regina Stingers at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 11:15 a.m. against Manitoba Magic and 6:30 p.m. against Zone 2 Blaze. Sunday’s final is 1:45 p.m.

The U16AA Mission are 6-0 in league play and 18-0-2 overall as winners of the Bernadette Price and St. Albert Turkey Ring tournaments.

In the 10-team U19AA division, the Mission skates Friday against Spruce Grove at 1:45 p.m. and Regina Bandits at 8:30 p.m. and Saturday against Manitoba Magic at 2:15 p.m. and Zone 2 Blaze at 7 p.m. Sunday’s final is 2:15 p.m.

The U19AA Mission’s 8-6-3 record includes a fourth-place 2-2-1 showing at the Bernadette Price tournament.

Raiders game

Tonight the St. Albert Nektar Raiders faceoff against Southside Athletic Club at 7:15 p.m. at Meadows Community Recreation Centre.

The Raiders (10-1-2) and SSAC (0-11-2) are ranked at the top and bottom of the north standings in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Raiders are coming off Saturday’s 5-0 win against the Canadian Athletic Club (4-8-2) at Jarome Iginla Arena.

Andreai Proctor-Ramirez (6-1-1, 1.25 GAA) faced 15 shots while posting his second shutout and the third of the season for the No. 1 defensive team (1.30 GAA) in the AMHL.

The Raiders riddled the penalty-plagued Canadians with power-play goals by Jaxon Dube, Kyle Norman, Tye Pedersen and David Saunders after Koehn Ziemmer scored four minutes into the contest.

The Raiders piled up 41 shots in the team's sixth win in seven games.

The next home game is Sunday versus the Lloydminster Bobcats (8-5-1) at 2:30 p.m.
