The Raiders are coming off a 1-1 draw against the Calgary Royals last weekend in St. Albert.

Next weekend the Raiders close out their midget AAA schedule on the road against the Calgary Northstars and the south division-leading Red Deer Rebels.

In the north division pennant race, the Raiders (18-9-4) lead the Southside Athletic Club (18-8-2) by two points but have played three more games than the second-place Athletics.

Meanwhile, the north division all-star team will play Team Alberta’s U16 Canada Winter Games team Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena. This will be Team Alberta’s last test before the games start Feb. 11 in Halifax, N.S.

Raiders’ centre Nelson Gadoury of Calahoo is on the U16 roster. The Edmonton Oil Kings picked Gadoury in the fifth round, 101st overall, in the 2010 Western Hockey League bantam draft.

The north all-star team features three Raiders: goalie Tanner Kovacs and forwards Jayden Hart and Brady Goebel. Head coach Sandro Pisani and assistant coach Geoff Giacobbo are in charge of the north bench.

In the Jan. 23 all-star game, the south edged the north 5-4.

The total number of qualifiers have been confirmed for the Alberta 55-Plus Winter Games.

Coming to St. Albert are 1,061 competitors, in addition to more than 100 guests. Zone 5, which includes St. Albert and Sturgeon County, has the biggest contingent of qualifiers at 190.

The celebration of sportsmanship, culture and competition starts Feb. 24. Medals will be awarded in alpine skiing, badminton, bowling (five-pin), bridge (duplicate), carpet bowling, cross-country skiing, curling, darts, euchre, hockey, pool (snooker), Scrabble and shuffleboard. Admission is free for all events.
