April 28 road race

Entries for the St. Albert Road Race are gaining momentum with Thursday’s online registration deadline fast approaching.

Visit www.zone4.ca to secure a spot in the 34th annual 10-miler, the fifth annual 10-kilometre and five-km and third annual one-km kids’ fun run.

As of Tuesday, the registration tally for the April 28 road race, presented by Active Physio Works, was 234, with 108 in the 10-miler, 39 in the 10 km, 47 in the five km and 40 for the one km.

Last year the number of finishers was 90 in the 10-miler, 59 in the 10 km, 44 in the five km and 46 in the one km.

The start/finish line is located in front of the St. Albert Curling Club on Sir Winston Churchill Avenue and race times are 9 a.m. for the 10-miler, 9:05 a.m. for the 10 km, 9:10 a.m. for the five km and 11 a.m. for the one km.

Proceeds from the road race will support all participating elementary, junior high and high schools in the greater Edmonton area.

May 5 RunWild

The ninth annual Leading Edge Physiotherapy RunWild on May 5 is capped at 2,200 spots and as of Wednesday, 1,776 runners and walkers were registered online at www.zone4.ca.

The entry deadline is April 27 at midnight for the Leading Edge five kilometre, FenceLine Rentals 10 km, Priority Printing 21.1 km half-marathon and Cybertech Automation WildOnes Kids MaraFun 1.3 km for youths four to 12 years old.

The five km, 10 km and half-marathon race distances are certified by Athletics Canada.

Last year’s registration record was 1,691 runners and walkers, including 620 in the MaraFun.

Overall, there were 189 finishers in the half-marathon, 300 in the 10 km and 445 in the five km.

Race times are 8 a.m. for the half-marathon, 8:50 a.m. for the 10 km and 9 a.m. for the five km in front of St. Albert Place on St. Anne Street and 11:30 a.m. for the MaraFun at the race village in Lions Park, which is also the Victory Lane finish line for the half-marathon, 10 km and five km.

All proceeds from RunWild will assist the Zebra Child Protection Centre, St. Albert Seniors Association and St. Albert Sturgeon Hospice Association.

More than 400 volunteers provided support at last year’s RunWild and application forms are available at www.runwild.ca.
