High school rugby
Week two in metro Edmonton high school division two men’s rugby kicks off Wednesday at 4:45 p.m.
The defending champion Bellerose Bulldogs (0-1) battle the Sturgeon Spirits (1-0) at St. Albert Rugby Football Club and the Paul Kane Blues (1-0) scrum down against the Archbishop Jordan Scots (1-0) at Lynne Davies Rugby Park.
Last week’s results were 33-19 Scots against Bellerose, 42-7 Sturgeon against the St. Francis Xavier Rams and 63-0 Paul Kane against the J. Percy Page Panthers.
Upcoming is the May 15 division two match between Bellerose and Paul Kane and it's also the seventh annual Gareth Jones Cup. Kickoff is 4:45 p.m. at SARFC.
The third Gareth Jones Cup win in a row for Bellerose over Paul Kane was 25-10 last year with a lineup that included St. Albert Catholic High School student athletes.
U18 AA baseball
The opening weekend for the Baseball Alberta U18 AA league starts Saturday for both St. Albert Cardinals teams.
Cardinals Red play at Legion Memorial Park against Parkland Twins Blue at 9 a.m. and the Bonnyville Braves at 6 p.m. and Sunday’s home game against the High Prairie Sauce is 12 noon.
Cardinals Blue are up to bat in Stony Plain against Parkland Twins Red at 12 noon and the Lloydminster Twins at 3 p.m. and Sunday’s 3 p.m. game is against the Edmonton Padres at Footz Field.
The U18 AA division consists of 34 teams, including the Alberta women’s team.
Storm playoff
The St. Albert Storm lines up against the Edmonton Seahawks in the Tier 2 playoff Saturday in midget spring league football.
Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. at Emerald Hills in Sherwood Park and gate admission is $5.
Both teams are 3-2 and in league play the Storm beat the Seahawks 30-14 April 6.
Last weekend’s scores were 32-14 for the Storm (102 PF/105 PA) against the Edmonton Chargers (0-5, 69 PF/169 PA) and the Seahawks (105 PF/85 PA) lost 15-0 to the Battle River Shock (5-1, 213 PF/84 PA).
The 2018 Storm finished 5-1 (178 PF/86 PA).
Junior AAA baseball
The St. Albert Cardinals make their season debut in Sunday’s doubleheader in the Baseball Alberta junior AAA league.
Game times at Castledowns Sports Field are 1 p.m. against the Fort Saskatchewan Red Sox and 4 p.m. against the Community Park Reds.
Last year’s Cardinals finished second at provincials and hosted the U21 westerns that was rained out.
