The board of directors of the St. Albert Curling Club announced Monday the 2010/11 curling season will rock the ice Nov. 15.

The board of directors of the St. Albert Curling Club announced Monday the 2010/11 curling season will rock the ice Nov. 15.

Established in 1949, the club is currently undergoing major construction to the front end of the building, which is more than 60 per cent complete. When finished, the club will not only be able to play host to the many curlers in the Capital region, but the upstairs lounge can be transformed into a 250-seat facility.

Extensive funding from the federal and provincial governments and the City of St. Albert helped the club move forward with its renovation plans.

The Gazette will update the progress of the renovations in Saturday’s edition.

After 29 years of distinguished service, Neal Connell announced his retirement as the director of golf at the Sturgeon Valley Golf & Country Club.

“There are not enough words to describe the dedication, commitment, energy and enthusiasm that Neal has brought to the club,” said president Craig Sneddon.

The new director of golf will open the 2011 season.

Plans are under way for the club to honour Connell and details will be announced at a later date.
