A neck-and-neck pitching duel between the U13 St. Albert Angels and a team from Bacolod, Philippines, fell in favour of Philippines on Tuesday night.

The Angels lost their first game 1-0 in the Little League Softball World Series held in Greenville, North Carolina, until Aug. 15.

The Little League Softball World Series is a 10-team international tournament for girls between the ages of 10 and 12. The tournament consists of six teams from the United States and four international teams representing Canada, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and one team representing either Europe or Africa.

The Angels, playing as Team Canada, struggled offensively against Philippines's team, who are representing Asia-Pacific.

Asia-Pacific's starting pitcher, Jacey Pajotal, racked up 11 strikeouts in her six-inning complete game shutout of the Angels.

A shaky first inning saw Asia-Pacific score the game's first and only run after an Angels error. Angels starting pitcher Ella Stranaghan managed to settle the team down as she only gave up one hit in the game and struck out seven batters across five innings.

Tatum Lecavalier registered the Angels' first hit of the tournament, which came in the second inning. Lecavalier also drew two walks as she reached base safely in all three of her plate appearances.

Down to their final out, the Angels managed to put some pressure on Asia-Pacific as they had runners on first and second base, but Pajotal shut the door.

The Angels will play their next game on Thursday evening against the loser of New England Region versus Mid-Atlantic Region — both teams from the United States.

The Angels will be eliminated from the tournament with a loss on Thursday.
