The Morinville Lady Wolves finished their third straight trip to the 3A provincial high school basketball tournament with a 1-2 record.

In Saturday’s pool C semifinal playoff at Chestermere, the ninth-seeded Wolves dropped a 59-50 decision to the seventh-seeded Holy Rosary Raiders of Lloydminster. Brittany Wilson sank 13 points and Kayli Avveduti recorded 11 for the north central zone champions.

In the tournament opener, Rebecca Dubord scored 11 points and Wilson had 10 in the 86-39 loss to the eighth-seeded Camrose Trojans.

In the next game, the Wolves beat the 12th-seeded Queen Elizabeth Knights of Calgary 58-28. Wilson was the top scorer in the pool C semifinal with 13 points. Dubord tacked up 10 and Amanda Kluthe added eight.

The St. Albert-based rink skipped by Dale Throndson edged Rob Bucholz in the Saville Sports Centre mixed playoff final last week.

Strong sweeping and near-perfect shot making propelled Throndson, third Barry Bergh, second Paul Turner (subbing for Brent Bucyk) and lead Randy Bucyk to the extra-end victory in their seventh game in four days.

Throndson’s foursome won their last five games of the season for a spot in the playoff bracket. In the fifth game, they successfully battled back from a five-point deficit with three ends to go.

Up next for Throndson is the Tournament of Champions next month at the Crestwood.
