Canada hammers Denmark 14-1 in women's hockey warm-up

COPENHAGEN — Marie-Philip Poulin and Sarah Fillier each scored four times as Canada throttled Denmark 14-1 on Saturday in a pre-tournament exhibition game ahead of the 2022 IIHF Women's World Championship.

Canada, which outshot Denmark 54-6, also got two goals from Sarah Potomak, and singles from Sarah Nurse and Ella Shelton.

Erin Ambrose had three assists for Canada.

“I liked some of the offence, but there were times we weren’t generating the type of offence we want to generate," said coach Troy Ryan. "As the game went on, we started to spread the zone out a little bit.

"The biggest thing out of a game like that is you generally have some different line combinations different from the Olympics or the last worlds. Having the puck as much as we did tonight tends to build chemistry a little bit better within those lines and it was good to see that.”

Jocelyne Larocque of St. Anne, Man., played in her 150th international game for Canada.

“I just feel really grateful and happy that I could be playing on the national team for so many games, it’s a huge accomplishment," said Larocque.

"I still remember my 100th game at the 2018 Olympics. It’s really special, and to do it with such an amazing team with me makes it that much better.”

Canada will play the United States on Tuesday in another pre-tournament exhibition.

The world championship gets underway Aug. 26.
