A look at forward-facing sonar and how it is used to help fishermen, both professional and amateur:
— Traditional units displayed sonar history, what had already passed under a transducer, which emits signals that are displayed on screen(s) in the boat.
— Forward-facing sonar allows anglers to mount multiple forward-facing transducers at one or both ends of their boats. Two can be mounted on the trolling motor while another two are located at the back, giving the angler complete coverage of what's around them in detail and in real time.
— Having the units at the back presents the ability to do so while idling. Idle speed is roughly twice as fast as a trolling motor, allowing for more water to be covered much more quickly.
— Some transducers are capable of registering fish that are up to 500 feet away. That allows anglers to find fish long before they can cast to them and slowly idle into position without causing a disturbance.
