Alain, Alphonse (Al)

Birthdate: August 2, 1942
Birthplace: Red Deer, Alberta

Passed away suddenly, at home, on January 3, 2020 at the age of 77.
Predeceased by his parents, Lionel Alain (father) and Germaine Alain (nee Fontaine) (mother), and daughter-in-law Amy (Rempel) Alain.

Loved and missed by his wife Helene, daughter Corinne (husband John), son Phil, son David (wife Trina), and grandchildren Julie, Andrew, Caitlyn, Mikayla, Adelaine, Christian, John and Amanda. Al was always very involved in his community, both in Port Coquitlam and in St. Albert. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very proud of his work on stage in the play “Love According to John”, in his roles as Peter and Thomas. He was legendary in so many community sports as a coach for his sons in football, soccer, baseball and hockey. He started an entire basketball league in St. Albert (K of C Mini-basketball) just so his daughter could play. That league is still going to this day. He loved music and loved to sing. Al formed the Knights of Columbus Choir in St. Albert, which is also still going strong. He had many fond memories singing with the Gentlemen of Fortune Chorus in Vancouver, as well as his quartet, “Ringers”. The quartet especially loved to sing on Valentine’s Day, and won the Seniors’ Quartet contest in their division. He also loved to sing with the church choir at St. Clare. Family was the most important thing to Al. He was so proud of his 3 children and grandchildren, and adored his wife of 54 years. They will all miss him dearly.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on January 11, 2020 at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, 2888 Delahaye Dr., Coquitlam. A Memorial Mass will also be held in St. Albert, Alberta on February 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Amy’s House (www.amyshouse.ca).
