1940 – 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Otto Babichuk announces his peaceful passing on January 19, 2022 in Edmonton.

Otto is survived by his wife, Jean; three sons: Kelly (Theresa), Roger (Jennifer), and Jason (Lesley), along with 9 grandchildren.

Otto was born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, where he grew up on farms near Eatonia and Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, with his parents (George and Stella), sister (Katharine), and two older brothers (Ernie and Eddie). Otto met Jean while attending civil engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. After graduating, they moved to Yorkton, Winnipeg and Calgary. They settled in Edmonton/St. Albert, making it their home and starting a family. Otto then began his fast-paced journey as an entrepreneur and became a construction industry pioneer.

Over the years, Otto grew a large network of close friends and developed a reputation as a sharp-minded, creative, fair, and trustworthy business leader - always treating his employees and business partners like family. He was an avid golfer and cherished his time with Jean and friends in Palm Springs during many winters.

Otto had a unique ability to connect with and inspire people, even making complete strangers feel special. He could light up a room of people with his warmth and positive energy. He loved Jean, his sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren dearly.

Although Otto is no longer with us, we will always remember his laugh, energy, warmth, loving charisma, and his unique Otto-isms.

Due to current restrictions, a private Family Service will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. For those who wish to attend virtually, a livestream of the service will be available. A Celebration of Otto’s Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
