It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father, David Lester Brooks, on June 17th, 2021. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Fern, and their daughter, Tamsin, as well as brothers Harold, Grant and Brian, sisters Darlene, Lois and Ethel and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Steve and Thelma, brother Steve and sister Karen.

David was born in Lac la Biche and moved to Waterways (Fort McMurray) at the age of 5. He worked for the NAR as an assistant agent for 15 years and then at the Northern Lights Regional Hospital in purchasing and accounting for 30 years until his retirement.

David and Fern were active in sports; fastball, curling and badminton. David fondly remembered winning 1st prize, with his NAR team, in the first “Tarsands” (later Oilsands) Curling Bonspiel in 1961.

When David retired in 2002 they moved to St. Albert where he joined the curling club and spent many hours volunteering at the St. Albert Botanic Gardens. He loved the outdoors and you could find him walking or biking on the trails in Fort McMurray and later St. Albert. David enjoyed travelling with his family, classical music, reading and visiting with friends.

His family wish to thank the wonderful care team at Youville Home Unit 5.

It was David’s wish that no funeral service be held. If friends so desire, memorial tributes can be made to the Parkinson’s Association of Alberta.
