1921-2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alma Casavant née Bachand on December 26, 2020. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Youville Home St. Albert at the age of 99 years. She succumbed to Covid.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Dora Dumont, Claudette Turgeon, Louise (Maurice) Froment; six grandchildren: Mark (Monica) Dumont, Monique Dumont, Tamie (Cory) Beattie, Rémie (Daniel) Maloney, Lynne (Gregory) Bentz, Patrick (Jaclyn) Froment; sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Also mourning her loss are her brother Paul (Thérèse) Bachand and sister-in-law and good friend Solange Bachand as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Alma was predeceased by her husband, Raoul Casavant in 1994; baby twin granddaughters: Elodie and Elizabeth Turgeon; grandson: Georges Turgeon; son-in-law: Roméo Dumont; younger siblings: Louise Beaupré, Irene Vallée, Marie Dupuis, Eddie Bachand, and Rita Ricard.

Alma’s family would like to thank the staff at both Heritage Lodge in Morinville and Youville Home in St. Albert for their kind care, compassion, and friendship. Mom was always very grateful. The Grey Nun sisters were especially kind to Mom. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Heritage Lodge Morinville or Youville Home St. Albert in Alma’s name.

The family regrets that due to Covid 19 restrictions the Funeral Mass will be private to be celebrated on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11:00 am at the St. Jean Baptiste Church in Morinville.

Thank you for all your expressions of sympathy.

Alma was a kind and gentle lady. She was generous with her time, whether it be to decorate a wedding cake, perm a neighbour’s hair, make donuts to share, sew dresses for the granddaughters, babysit the kiddies, or harvest her precious strawberries as a treat to family and we loved her sucre à crème cookies. She was a great cook and we craved her cream pies and delicious Sunday suppers. Alma lived a long life and overcame many health issues, colon cancer and two hip replacements. Her strong faith carried her through all these trials. She lived for her Sunday Brunch at Albert’s with her girls all the way to March 2020, when we could no longer go. She did enjoy her 99th birthday open house on January 25, 2020. She was looking forward to her 100th in just a few weeks. Her quiet smile will be forever in our hearts.
