It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Margaret Dobinson on October 16, 2022, peacefully at home surrounded by her family, at the age of 87.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband, Will; her children, Ann Marie (Eldon) Gonda, David Dobinson, and Susan (Randy Ross) Dobinson; 10 grandchildren, Mark (Alisa), Shannon (Sean), Christine (Joey), Jay, James, Nicole, Matthew, Dustin, Tanner, and Spencer (Bre); 7 great-grandchildren, Dominic, Hailey, Hayden, Brody, Fox, Ozmo, and Ellis; 4 brothers, Tom (Bev) Quigley, Andrew (Donna) Quigley, Brian (Roz) Quigley, and Kevin (Betty) Quigley; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Brandon Dobinson; parents Peter and Agnes; brothers Peter, Mike, and Gerald; sisters Helen, Mary, Bernice, and Roseanne.

Marg was born and raised in Newfoundland and then travelled west and settled in Lachine, Quebec, where she met the love of her life, Will. He was stationed there while serving in the Air Force. Together they moved to Ontario where they married and started a family. Marg and Will and their three children headed west when Will was transferred to Edmonton.

Marg took pride in taking care of her home and family. She was known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills; green cake on St. Patrick’s Day, pizza sized Smartie cookies for all the grandchildren at Christmas and let’s not forget her famous grilled cheese sandwiches. She was actively involved in her grandchildren’s sporting events and rarely missed an opportunity to attend.

Marg immensely loved all animals big and small and often fed the stray cats who visited their home. Marg and Will rescued many dogs and cats over the years.

One of her greatest pastimes was seeing the world from the deck of a cruise ship with her family. The Panama Canal and the Caribbean were among her favourite destinations. Marg and Will renewed their wedding vows on three separate cruises with the latest celebrating their 60th anniversary on the Majestic Princess.

A celebration of Marg’s life will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Sana Eljorani, Dr. Peng Wang, Nadia, and all the staff at the Kay Centre and the University of Alberta Hospital for their exceptional care of Marg. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marg can be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, or SCARS (Second Chance Animal Rescue Society).
