Our family and community lost a creative and talented free spirit with the passing of Brian Doran on February 15, 2024. After a courageous and valiant battle with metastatic prostate cancer, Brian passed away at his beloved St. Albert home.

Brian is survived by his loving wife Jill; his son Jeff (Tracey), his daughter Tracy; four grandchildren:  Connor, Penelope, Amber and Madeline; sister-in-law Denyse; nieces Leila and Sara and his nephew Thomas.

Brian was predeceased by his father Thomas Doran, mother Elizabeth Toews (nee Todd) and brothers Terry and Tom Doran.

Brian’s life was rich with a love of creativity and activity. As a young man, Brian took up the guitar and patterned his skills after his guitar hero, Cliff Richards. Through dedication and hard work, Brian became a professional musician and guitar teacher. Being active was a way of life for Brian, enjoying daily walks with Jill and Picos, race walking, hiking, skiing, golfing, biking and travelling with famiy and friends as often as possible.

Brian’s creativity and amazing artistic skills led him to build an incredible model railroad, ever increasing in size, much to Jill’s chagrin. Once his railroad interest waned, Brian became an accomplished watercolour artist with many of his paintings hanging in homes across Canada.

Brian’s love of the outdoors, art, model making, and guitar influenced his children and grandchildren who have taken to model making, painting, guitar, drums, hiking and running.

Brian’s last months were difficult and challenging. However, his positivity, sense of hope and being an extremely low maintenance patient are traits we can all hope to emulate.

Brian, Jill and Picos would like to thank all the wonderful caring people in their lives. It takes a village and we have a fabulous, loving village. Thank you.

Peace is a wonderful thing to have. Rest in peace, Brian, we love you and we miss you.
