It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leo Korownyk at 93 years of age.

Leo was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, October 14, 1930. He is survived by his loving wife - Anne, children: Joyce Thiessen, Ruth Gereluk, Nathan (Tina) Korownyk, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sister Luba Bodrouk and several nieces and nephews.

Leo was the last known survivor in Edmonton of the Holodomor (Ukrainian Famine and Genocide 1932-1933).

The foundation of his life was unquestionably his faith in God. The love of family was his joy. The pursuit of language and expression was his passion. Although his adoptive country of Canada was his home, his respect and lasting patriotism for Ukraine, the country of his roots, were integral parts of who he was.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HART (Humanitarian Response Teams), 106, 90 Freeport Blvd NE, Calgary, AB, T3J 9Z9 or Foyer Lacombe Hospice Care, St. Albert.

Celebration of Life will be held at Sturgeon Valley Baptist Church, 51 Woodlands Rd, St. Albert, AB on March 9 at 1:30 PM.
