In Loving Memory of Marilynne Joyce Laxdal

It is with profound sadness that the family of Marilynne Joyce Laxdal announce her passing on February 16, 2022, two weeks after celebrating her 90th birthday.

Marilynne will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, Victor “Vic” Allan Laxdal; her children Lori (Rob Jack), Cheryl (Art Rundell), Garry (Christine LeMaire), and Chris (Kelly Laxdal); eleven grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.

Marilynne was born in Fort Frances, Ontario to Cecil and Rita Garland where she lived until attending the University of Manitoba, where she met the love of her life, Victor. They married in 1955 and started their family the next year in Regina, Saskatchewan. Five years later they moved to Calgary where they raised their family of two daughters and two sons.

Marilynne supported the family while Vic completed his doctoral studies when they moved to Saskatoon in 1970. She was employed at Millars’ flowers and as a secretary at the University of Saskatchewan until her retirement in 1994 .Vic and Marre returned to Calgary following Vic’s retirement in 2001.

Marilynne was passionate about traveling, and she accompanied Vic on many trips with exciting adventures to Europe, Australia, and Hawaii. They also enjoyed many warm winters in Mesa, Arizona. Marilynne delighted in singing, playing the piano, and she excelled as an artist completing beautiful oil and water colored paintings, folk art on milk cans, footstools, or saw blades. Her most treasured place was at the family cabin at Fishing Lake, where she swam for hours in the warm waters.

She will be dearly missed for her humor, laughter, love for family & friends, and her generosity towards others. Special thanks are extended to the staff at the St. Albert Retirement Residence for their wonderful care and attention.

Marilynne’s Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Connelly- McKinley Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert AB. For those unable to attend, livestreaming will be available. The family requests that family and friends wear masks while attending the service for her Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made online to Diabetes Canada (diabetes.ca).
