The Mattila family are sad to announce the death of Walter Mattila in St. Albert, Alberta.

Walter was born to Walter Sr and Ida Mattila near Churchill, Manitoba on February 5, 1942. The family lived in the north of Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and in Thompson.

He is survived by sisters Elaine Woods of Brampton Ontario and Linda Mattila of Calgary, his cousins Howard and Beverly Mattila and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter was predeceased by his parents, Walter Sr and Ida (Hanson) Mattila; his aunt and uncle, Lydia and Hugh Mattila; and three brothers, Hugh, John, and Ernest.

When Walter was about six, his parents became ill and he went to live with an Aunt and Uncle, Hugh and Lydia Mattila and their family, near Rose Valley Saskatchewan. Walter completed his elementary and secondary schooling there and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Commerce degree in 1964.  Walter’s work years as a comptroller were mainly with Alberta Tractor and Derrick Dodge in the Edmonton/St. Albert area. He retired to St. Albert and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time. He took a number of fly–in trips to prolific fishing resorts in northern Canada. Walter was also a champion golfer and worked out at the gym when his health allowed.
