Thomas “Tom” A. Murphy born on July 13, 1932 passed away in Edmonton, AB on July 23, 2021 at the age of 89.

He is survived by Mary, his wife of 65 years; six children, Dean, Jan, Craig (Joan), Lynn (Pierre), Keith and Lori; along with 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Tom was pre-deceased by his parents, Alphonsus (Tom) and Cecelia; his brother, Al; and sister, Eileen; and is survived by his remaining sisters, Juanita and Isabelle.

Tom Murphy lived a full and fruitful life. He married his sweetheart, Mary Anne Rosenberger in his early twenties and soon after began a 30-year career in the Natural Gas Pipeline Industry with Alberta Gas Trunk Line (which later became NOVA, then Trans Canada Pipeline and currently TC Energy). Proud of his career, Tom worked in Fort Macleod, Cavendish, Edson and then Vegreville, where he retired in 1988 at the age of 56. Tom and Mary spent twelve years of their retirement together in Kelowna and then came back to Alberta in the year 2000 to be closer to their family.

Throughout his life Tom was well-liked and respected in his workplace and his community. Tom was a Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus. He actively participated in countless projects and fundraisers during his 60 plus years as a member.  Those who knew him saw first-hand his work ethic and his devotion to a ‘family-first lifestyle’. Tom made it his priority to take yearly summer vacations to enjoy family time together and regular family activities like picnics and tobogganing were a part of the Murphy family life throughout the year. Tom’s passion was woodworking and he always had projects on-the-go in his workshop. His hand-crafted keepsakes will be treasured for years to come. Two of Tom’s favourite pastimes were golfing and attending rodeos, regular activities he enjoyed with family and friends. Tom was a remarkable man – a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and his good-natured approach to life will be deeply missed.

Tom’s life will be celebrated in a family-only Funeral Liturgy, Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Connelly McKinley Funeral Home in St Albert, AB. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Tom’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
