April 20, 1944 – October 8, 2022

It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to a treasured husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.  Jerry passed away at home on October 8 after a 16-month journey with terminal cancer.  He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by his wife Debra Cairns; his daughters Lyanne (Dallas) Burak and Angela (Scott) Mizibrocky; grandchildren Emma (Matt), Dillon, Isla and Ivy; sisters Sylvia Claire and Sharon Laskosky; extended family members and many cherished friends.  He was predeceased by his mother and father, an infant brother Michael, and brothers-in-law Wally Claire and Ernie Laskosky.

Born in Westlock, Jerry was raised in Edmonton and lived most of his adult life in the Edmonton area.  He was the successful business owner of Safety West and a passionate entrepreneur who always sought opportunities for growth and improvement.  Jerry’s other passion was singing.  For over 25 years he was a devoted member of the Edmonton Swiss Men’s Choir, and the men’s trio Tenor Power.  He also derived much joy singing in the St Albert Evangelical Lutheran Church choir, and more recently in the First Presbyterian Church choir.  Jerry had a zest for life and approached each day with a positive attitude.  Among the many gifts that he shared so generously were his willingness to help others, his ability to set others at ease in a social setting, his quick sense of humour and ready smile, his kindness, and his love of people, especially his family and his wide circle of cherished friends.

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, 10:30am at St Albert Evangelical Lutheran Church (11 Glenview Crescent, St Albert).

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a choir or other arts organization, or to a charity of your choice.  And in honour of Jerry, please visit with a friend over coffee.
