Rawlinson Obituary Photo

April 30, 1927 - July 16, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Ellenora Rawlinson, of St. Albert on July 16, 2020, at the age of 93.

She is lovingly remembered by her children Elizabeth (Doug) Jackson, Chris Rawlinson; her grandchildren Megan, Greg, Melissa and Emma and two great grandchildren Phoenix and Anakin. Betty will be dearly missed by her sister, Linda Hadley, and sister-in-law, Anne Radke, along with her cousin Florence Miller and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Betty was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Harry Rawlinson in 1995, son Hugh in 1996, parents Gus and Martha Radke, her siblings Leona (Schultz), Dick and Vern, and her partner of 21 years, Owen Cornish in 2016.

Betty was born and raised in Bashaw, AB and graduated from Victoria Composite High School, Edmonton in 1945. She began her training as a Psychiatric Nurse in Ponoka and fell in love; choosing marriage to Harry over nursing in 1947, when in those days you couldn’t have both! Betty ultimately graduated in 1972, with a BA from the University of Alberta. For 20 years, Betty was Director of Volunteer Services at the Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, where not only did she make many lifelong friends, she was highly respected in her career and community, winning Edmonton’s Woman of the Year in 1992.

Betty loved people, and anyone who had the opportunity to know her would be forever impacted by her kind and loving nature.

As per Betty’s wishes, there will be no service.

Her family will gather once all overseas travel restrictions have been lifted.

A special thank you to staff and friends at River Ridge in St. Albert. Betty was very fond of all of you.
