Bernard Ralph Redford, known affectionately as Ralph to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024, in St. Albert, Alberta, at the age of 91. Born on October 12, 1932, in Mimico, Ontario, Ralph's journey through life was marked by his unwavering kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit.
Ralph's early years in Mimico laid the foundation for a life of service and community involvement. His dedication to his country was evident when he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on October 15, 1951, rising to the rank of Sargeant in Regiment 17316. For 23 years, he served with distinction, retiring on October 15, 1974. Ralph's commitment to public service continued as he transitioned to a career with the Alberta Government, where his work ethic and integrity were greatly valued by his colleagues.
Beyond his professional life, Ralph was a man of many interests. He was an avid reader, always with a book in hand. His passion for travel and cruising took him and Evelyn to many corners of the world. His love for cycling, hiking and golf were more than a hobby; it was a way for him to connect with friends and enjoy the outdoors.
Ralph's personal life was filled with love and laughter. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Evelyn, and a loving brother to Patricia in Ontario, Lionel (Patricia) in New Brunswick and numerous nieces and nephews. His role as a stepfather to Charles (Monique), Andre (Julie), Monique (Jeff), Raymond, Dan, and Suzi, was one he cherished deeply. The joy of his life was further multiplied by his 11 grandchildren; Brandon, Leah, Keirstin, Janelle, Kaitlin, Louis, Kristopher, Benoit, Rebecca, Stephanie, and Teagan, who will all remember him for his warmth and guidance.
Ralph was predeceased by his parents, Douglas and Amy; first wife, Donna; one son, Leslie; his brothers, Douglas and Rex, and his stepdaughter-in-law Wendy. The legacy of his kind and generous nature will live on through the many lives he touched.
As we bid farewell to Ralph, we reflect on a life well-lived, a path marked by kindness, and a man who was the embodiment of generosity and gentleness. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who knew him; he will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Ralph's life will take place at a later date with family. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the outstanding staff in Unit 17 at the Sturgeon Community Hospital and River Ridge Retirement Home in St. Albert, whose exceptional care and support were invaluable during Ralph’s final days.
