1931 - 2020
On December 11, 2020, our loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, Madeleine Roy passed away at the age of 89. She will be lovingly remembered by her four sons: Norman (Katia), Henry, Bernie, and Donald (Maureen); grandchildren: Angela (Kevin), Leon (Nicole), Chelsea, Melissa (Les), Jason (Robin), Cory, Jordan, Jenica, Brendan, and Kassidy. She was blessed with 13 great grandchildren: Davis, Spencer, Ava, Hannah, Aden, Chiana, Ailena, Gia, Easton, Cohen, Willow, Sloan, and Logan. She will also be dearly missed by her sister, Lucienne Montpetit (Peter) of Legal Alberta and many friends, nieces, nephews, along with staff and friends of River Ridge Seniors Community and Lifestyles at Schonsee Seniors Community.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Jean Paul Roy of 55 years; sisters: Claire (Rolland), Antoinette (Wilfrid), Fernande (Walter), and brother, Remi.
Madeleine loved life and everybody in it, she especially loved bringing smiles to people’s faces through happy interactions. She was very loved and admired by her grandchildren and was the source of an infectious smile, positive energy, and an inspiration to so many people. She was a long-standing 50-year volunteer at St. Albert Youville Home and a Seniors Games medal recipient for bowling. While devoting her earlier years to raising her family, Madeleine always inspired those around her to take on the day dressed well for the journey and showing your best side. Her graceful attention to clothing, accessories, and jewelry detail led her to a 25-year long career in the retail clothing industry where her eye for matching clothing and accessories was well known. Madeleine loved music both on the farm as child, and in her adult years where she would often be seen participating with live musicians on stage singing, dancing, playing spoons, and tambourine.
The family regrets that due to COVID 19 restrictions and limitations, a Private Funeral Mass for Madeleine will be celebrated with only her children and grandchildren in attendance. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in 2021.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to Dr. W. Mair for his life-long commitment and care for Madeleine, and Dr. S. Surmawala for her care at Lifestyles at Schonsee Seniors Community. Also, a warm and special thank you goes out to both the palliative-care team and nursing/aid staff of Lifestyles at Schonsee Seniors Community who’s compassion, and warmth made Mom's last months with us comfortable, filled with dignity, and heartfelt.
