1941 - 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Staatz on July 28, 2021 at the age of 79 years. Ron died peacefully with his wife, Merlene by his side. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Ron was born on September 6, 1941, in Winnipeg, to Karl and Mary Staatz. He married Merlene Botchett in 1966 and moved to Edmonton in 1968 to work for Northgate (Pontiac) Chevrolet. He worked at the dealership for 41 years until his retirement. The couple have made their home in St. Albert since 1969.
Ron was predeceased by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Maggie Staatz; and brothers-in-law, Gerd Meyer and George Botchett.
Ron is survived and deeply missed by his wife of 54 years, daughter, Gilda Frizzell (Shawn) of Edmonton; son, David (Leah) of Winnipeg and grandsons, Ryan and James Staatz. Also mourning his loss are sister, Doreen Meyer of South Chicago Heights, Illinois; sister-in-law, Enid Botchett; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Beryl Magel of Winnipeg; and nephews and nieces in Canada and the United States.
No one was a stranger to Ron. He loved to meet new people and to spread his good humour around. He will be remembered for his kindness, his generous caring spirit and his gentle teasing.
A private Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Albert Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will be available for viewing on YouTube with SAELC as the search term.
