LETTER: Front page photo was fearmongering

letter-sta

If your purpose is to incite fear into subscribers, you may do that with the photo of two people in masks endeavouring to protect themselves from coronavirus (St. Albert Gazette, Feb. 1, 2020); however, are you not aware that Alberta Health has stated that Albertans face a much greater threat from flu, and the flu shot is recommended.

There are only four confirmed cases in Canada, none in the Prairie provinces, and while China’s reported cases and deaths are significant, such numbers are very very insignificant in relation to China’s people population; consequently I would catergorize your masked persons photo as fear mongering. Your newspaper should have a better objective than that. China and other governments have implemented actions to restrict the coronavirus spread.

Charley Primmer, St. Albert
