LETTER: Hometown Heroes feature was uplifting and meaningful

"Even though we are not through this trying time yet, we need to give ourselves a "pat on the back" for continuing to be resilient and adaptable to a new sense of normalcy."

I am writing in response to the "Salute to Service" article on Hometown Heroes in the May 13 edition. It was very uplifting and meaningful in its appreciation of our community's front line and support workers.

As mentioned, the gratitude that has been shown is most heart warming and certainly not surprising for St. Albert. I received a poem a number of years ago entitled "Everyday Heroes" that I would like to share with your readers. I hope everyone will find it inspirational as we are all doing our part during this pandemic.

Everyone deserves a big thank you as we continue to move forward.

EVERYDAY HEROES

There are all kinds of heroes who live in this world;
all kinds of heroes we meet.
They are there in our circle of family and friends
and the strangers we pass on the street.
There are heroes who somehow find strength to go on,
even when they feel weary inside;
And heroes whose gift is their honest emotion;
the truth of the tears they have cried.
There are heroes whose courage saves people and nations;
who search out the safe path ahead;
And heroes whose job is to quietly listen
or tuck a small child into bed.
There are everyday heroes who touch our hearts deeply
without even knowing they do.
There are heroes around us wherever we go ...
There's a hero right now within you.

Even though we are not through this trying time yet, we need to give ourselves a "pat on the back" for continuing to be resilient and adaptable to a new sense of normalcy. Staying strong, united and supportive with each other means that even if "we are apart, we stand together."
